"Making the Grade?" in Indiana

"The Indiana Department of Education said it is working to identify and correct deficiencies that led a national panel to award the state a 'D' grade for its public school climate education standards," according to Indiana Environmental Reporter (November 18, 2020).

The source of the D grade was "Making the Grade? How State Public School Science Standards Address Climate Change," the recent report issued by NCSE and the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund.

While not disputing the report's criticisms, the Department of Education cited a collaborative effort with Purdue University to design a framework that helps Indiana educators find opportunities within the existing state science standards to teach climate change.
